As a church planter, you may feel like you need many things. You probably want a great meeting place, people to help you set up chairs in that great meeting place, lots of people to sit in all the chairs that you set up, and of course you want just a little more (or a lot more) money.  But what you need most of all, is prayer!

At DCPI, one of our twelve Biblical principles of dynamic church planting is The Power Principle which says, “Prayer is the indispensable source of God’s power and wisdom in each phase of church planting.”

The Apostle Paul realized how much he needed prayer support, so he brought this request to the church at Colossae, Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should (Colossians 4:2-4).”

Through prayer, God gives church planters His power to accomplish what they are unable to do in their own strength. God can do more in one moment than we can do in a lifetime.

Husband and wife church planters, Peter and Kim, had been serving the Lord for decades. Through their faithfulness, they were used by God to reach many with the life changing love of Jesus, but they were unaware that the Lord had a vision for a new chapter in their lives.

One day while they were in prayer, God told them to plant a new church. On March 16, 2020, through the power of the Holy Spirit, Peter and Kim planted that church. On the very next day, the COVID lockdown struck, and they had to do adjust their plans. Directed by the Lord, Peter and Kim bought a mobile home and began having church in their home. Today, River of Life Church is thriving and reaching their community for Jesus.

Through God’s power and wisdom homeless are cared for, abandoned animals are being rescued, women facing domestic violence are being nurtured, families with disabilities are being ministered to, hungry children are being fed, and people are meeting Jesus through River of Life Church!

Like He did for Peter and Kim, the Lord wants to share His power and wisdom with you. Prayer is the vehicle God uses to accomplish this.

Take some time this week to get alone with God and ask Him to energize you with The Power Principle.

Better yet, take out your calendar and set aside a day (or two) for a prayer retreat.

“Prayer is the indispensable source of God’s power and wisdom in each phase of church planting.”
