Solomon, the wise King, writes to us:

“So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.” Ecclesiastes 8: 15.

I agree with Solomon. Enjoy life! Eat and drink and be glad!

My wife, Cathy, has the gift of celebration. She taught me to enjoy life. I am forever indebted to her. When we met, I was not a very fun person. She helped me to delight in this amazing life that God has given to us.

Life has its share of bad times, sad times and tragedies. Family and friends get sick. Sometimes they die. We find ourselves grieving their loss. Things don’t always turn out the way we would like or have planned in our work lives or personal lives. Life can be hard. To experience joyful activities helps us through the hard times that inevitably come our way.

What are some joyful activities? We can adore our spouses with a gift or a conversation. We can delight in our children and spend time with them. We can play with our grandchildren. Cathy and I love to hold our grandchildren, Lynnlee and Joshua. We can savor a delicious meal with dear friends and catch up on their lives. We can laugh. Do you have someone in your life who is funny and can make you laugh? Spend more time with that person. Laughter is good medicine.

Someone said, “Today is a new day. Learn to love your life, right now. Right where you are now. Say, ‘I am grateful to be a child of God, redeemed and made righteous in his eyes. I am going to enjoy myself all day long.’”

Someone else said, “Nothing lasts forever. Not even your problems. Stop worrying and get on with the awesome life that God has given you.”

What do you really enjoy in life? I love to take a long walk in God’s incredible creation, especially in the mountains.

Write down three activities that bring you joy. Plan these activities in your busy schedule. Enjoy life!

Until the whole world knows Him!
