I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land… ~ Ezekiel 22:30a

READING: Ezekiel 22:23-31

I’d never met the pastor’s wife of the church in a neighboring town but when I heard she was facing back surgery in a few days, the Lord prompted me to go pray for her and, while there, to watch for a more urgent need than her spine.

Nervously, I called and asked if she’d be willing to have a complete stranger drop by to pray. She agreed. I drove out to their country church.

As I parked, I noticed a low adobe wall encircling both the church and the parsonage where she lived. After praying for her back, I drew her out in conversation.

She shared that the parsonage often felt “creepy,” as if someone lurked in the corners. The church ministry was struggling.

Her children had suffered broken bones and other physical attacks in odd apparent coincidences. I prayed for guidance and felt led to pray blessing for each family member.

Suddenly, after the last blessing, I got a vivid impression in the Spirit, that their physical adobe wall reflected another spiritual one.

I pictured evil spirits flowing freely back and forth through gaps in their wall. Surprised but emboldened, in the name of Jesus I spoke closure to the breach and protection over this family.

Instantly, I sensed I was done. We hugged and said farewell. About a year later I ran into her again. “Dionne, such good things happened after God sent you.

He healed my back so I didn’t need surgery. The house doesn’t feel creepy any more. And best of all, the church has turned around and we’re growing again!” “Glory to God!”

Father, Give us intercessors who will stand in the gap in their authority in Christ. Amen.
